Here Comes the Sun? The gang was back together again for a wedding this weekend! Our rehearsal this morning at Nykerk, the Hope College music building, went smoothly. After strategically loading up Chris’s two door Grand Prix with a large cello, viola, two violins, 4 music stands, and personal belongings we were off! Off to Pentwater: with hope and excitement and open minds. The one and a half hour drive up north was beautiful. Jacob, Cameron, and I made some really close friends with the music stands we had stuffed in the back seats while Chris chauffeured us to the Village Green that overlooked the lake at the shores of Pentwater. We decided that the city of Pentwater should probably just change its name after today’s weather. Pentwater proved to be quite wet…..very wet indeed. Especially for an outdoor wedding.
A gazebo in the park area was able to shelter the bride, groom, and many guests attending while we played safe and sound underneath a tent and the rain poured. Some of the program included: -Air on G -Poco adagio from Haydn’s Emperor -Somewhere from West Side Story -Theme from Somewhere in Time -Canon in D -Clair de Lune, Debussy -Flightless Bird, Iron & Wine -A Thousand Miles, Vanessa Carlton & finally we played the recessional: ‘Here Comes the Sun’ (as the torrential downpour continued on, the winds blew, and our music wilted due to the 100% humidity). But all in all we had a blast! The bride was gorgeous, the venue was beautiful, and the sense of camaraderie was evident. Wishing the newly renamed city of Water, MI goodbye we headed back to Holland. Singin’ in the rain, The Charmante String Quartet
